The Makings of a Boss…

Has your son or daughter invited you to play make believe? I'm sure your little one has...what does that look like?

How usually does that go?

Do your kiddos ever surprise you with their imagination?

About two weeks ago, my  9-yr old daughter asked me, "Mommy, do you want to join my art club?"

Before I could think "how much time do you want from me right now at this moment because I'm busy" I said...

"yes! I'd love to!"

My daughter began to tell me all the days of the week the club met and I immediately latched on to SATURDAY, after all, Saturday is when I am more available...

I work 40 hours a week, man, come on...

...busy working mom here...

She said Saturday was the real meeting but there would be an introduction meeting on Wednesday and I was assured it would not be long...

(yeah right...)

Leading up to Wednesday my daughter kept talking about the other members in art I was starting to wonder "who are these other members?"

She kept talking like they were real people....

I started thinking "there's no way it's anyone real. She doesn't even attend school anymore because of COVID-19 quarantine closings..."

Wednesday rolled around and my daughter told me the other art club members were in attendance waiting to for me...we went to her room..

She started talking to the class...

As I looked around the room I realized several stuffed animals were spread around the room.

There were two cats, one from The Aristocrats animated movie, the little white cat with a pink bow. This was Kitty-Can.

The other cat was "Jingles." Jingles had bells that jingled. I recognized Jingles from my early teenage years. She was a gift from my aunt and I had never named it...but I kept her all these years...

or more like mom kept all my stuff animals after I moved to Texas in my early twenties and then busted out with a lot of my old things when I had kids of my own...

There was "Macaw" sitting among tree branches. The little tree lights up.

There was a bunny wearing a green sequin dress sitting on the bookshelf near Macaw. This was Nice Diva.

Earlier in the day my daughter had asked me "what does 'diva' mean?" She said "oh" sounding a bit disappointed after I told her....

I was the sixth member. I learned that we operate in groups of 2. I was grouped with Eeyore.

I thought this was awesome...Eeyore was my stuffed animal from when I was 13. I was in a play back then and I was Eeyore! My mom gave me the softest, cutest Eeyore from the Disney store that Christmas.

Side note: the teenager playing Winnie the Pooh would smoke his cigarettes in the alley behind the Poncan Theater on our breaks...

I told myself being Eeyore's partner would be good since we had a friendly history...

Fast forward to the real Saturday art club meeting...

My daughter wore a pearl necklace and a button pinned to her shirt, which she had made. The button read "Boss of Art Club."

We split up into our groups and listened to Boss of Art Club talk. She pointed out everyone's mistakes in past meetings. It consisted mostly of late assignments.

After the meeting Group 3 (me and Eeyore) was held back. Boss of Art Club started chewing out Eeyore for cheating in the past. I started feeling awkward...

I thought Eeyore was cool but apparently not. I asked if I could be dismissed since Boss of Art Club was only talking to Eeyore, who was sitting RIGHT NEXT to me...

After asking 3 x I was dismissed.

Fast forward to an impromptu art meeting (not on a Saturday!)

I was introduced to my new group partner, a white bengal tiger named Savannah. Eeyore had received disciplinary action and was suspended for the next two weeks...

We got two art assignments:

1. Draw mountains and a fairy

2. Draw a horse
