Valentine’s Day Surprises

Valentine's Day

I surprised my little familia with a Valentine's Day surprises, a box for each of them. I've heard co-workers say (in advance) what they were thinking about giving their kids for Valentine's Day surprises, and realized I never put that much thought into Valentine's Day. I always got my husband a card and would always tell him to just spend time with me instead of spending a lot of money, since we would just be coming off of Christmas holidays and all. I'm not saying you can't spend lots of money, heck if you've got the bucks and the time (and the babysitter...that's the tough one for us) then by all means romance your sig, but since our kiddos are little and Valentine's Day typically falls on a week day (and every place is super crowded on this day) we would just stay in. So, I always gave my daughter a left-over Valentine's Day card from the ones she would be handing out at pre-school and kindergarten with a tiny stuffed animal, or even just the tiny card (because she was already coming home with tons of candy!). Don't worry, I left the card out in the morning so it would be a Valentine's Day surprise (that's a little better, no?).

Well, since my "theme" and "my word" for this year is "Next Level," I decided to step up Valentine's Day!

I tried hard to get things that weren't related to food. Our American culture (then throw in the Latino side of us!) bases almost everything around food. I knew my daughter was going to get lots of candy from school as usual, so I didn't want to contribute to that. So, again, I tried hard NOT to get her candy...and I tried hard NOT to go to the store! Ja ja (Spanish for "ha ha"). I get my groceries delivered to me because I have grocery-aisle road rage (not very Christian, I know, but that's something I'm working on...pray for me).

So, I searched my grocery store delivery app as best I could (I'm sure it would have been easier if I went to any store in person, especially if I would have done it over the weekend when my husband could have been home with the kids) because I can't go to stores during the week because my 1st grader has more daily homework than I ever did in college...

So what did I get? Chocolates for Daddy (shhh...it was left-over Halloween candy!), Ninja Turtle & Minions stickers for baby, and for my sweet girl: we made cupcakes together so she could take to school (did you see my posting on Facebook?), her little surprise box had stickers for your nails, My Little Pony & Minion stickers, a box of Sour Patch Kids (okay, so I gave her a little candy) and of course, everyone got a left-over Valentine's Day cards my daughter was taking to school...including Daddy 🙂
