Toddler at Your Feet

Toddler By My Feet

He's so cute isn't he? When you have a toddler at your feet, it's usually when you're trying to go somewhere...and you're in a hurry. Am I right? I told my husband to be home by 7pm. I would be ready by this time (hahahaha!) and leave promptly at 7pm when my husband arrived. Destination: BFF's b-day party! Now we all know how rarely a mom of two little kiddos gets to go out with friends, so I have to look extra good! Make it count, right?? Who knows when I'll leave the house on a public outing where people look nice! I was planning on blow drying my hair...

Well, my little guy did not want to leave my side. Why he was only in his diaper I can't remember...but he wanted to pull everything out of my bathroom drawers and hand them to me, one item at a time...ONE. THING. AT. A. TIME. "Mama!" He hands me a makeup brush. "Mama!" He hands me eyeliner. "Mama!" He hands me nail polish. Nail polish! I thought I had all of them in my closet, out of reach of small children! Agh!

I couldn't do anything!  I was TRYING to get ready! When I told him no more, he wanted me to hold him. Now, I would LOVE to just snuggle with my little guy but this was Mommy's chance for some grown-up fun with friends! Since I wouldn't hold him, he got in between me and the bathroom counter. Then he started pushing my legs with his little hands, trying to push me away from the counter. When that didn't work, my little guy got between my feet, on the floor...a toddler at your feet, now you really can't move. He then pulled his knees up to his chest, placed his feet on the back of my legs and started screaming!. This was a live, please-hold-me-right-now scenario, but instead of being mad (okay, I was getting annoyed...but just a little...I'm still a good mom, I swear!) I wanted to laugh and took this picture. I have another picture I took that shows him pushing my legs and screaming but I didn't want to embarrass him by putting that picture on the internet. He's super cute!

Did I make it out in time? No...I couldn't really get ready until my husband got home and could take baby. BUT...I was only 15 min late...that's practically on time! Win for Mommy! Despite having a toddler at your feet, you can still get ready pretty quickly, something I was never able to do in my 20's when I had 0 children. It used to take me 2 hours when I was 20, and now I can do it 20 min, 30 if I need to wash my hair. I'm shocked by how fast I can actually get ready....maybe it's because I have to...I think it's a super power you get when you become a mom 🙂 The birthday was really fun! I was the first mom to arrive! Despite a toddler at your feet! WOOHOO!!
